Our Philosophy

Connect Society’s Deaf Youth Outreach Program (DYOP) Community Supports is committed to the belief that community supports for deaf youth will actively promote competence and leadership skills in children and youth.

Our Goals

  • To reduce barriers to accessing community activities.
  • To support parent-youth communication.
  • To connect parents with other parents.
  • To connect deaf youth with other deaf youth
  • To strengthen and support families and individuals within the context of their communities.

Our Focus

This program is for children and youth aged 6 -18 years who are deaf or hard of hearing and who live in the Edmonton area.

Community Supports

The community supports we offer are tailored to meet the needs of individual youth or families. Ideas for these supports are a result of on-going consultation between Connect Society staff, parents and youth. Community supports programming can be short or long term depending on each situation. If you are interested in any of the following supports, please contact Connect Society.

SUPPORT TO YOUTH

Youth meet on a regular basis one on one with staff who are trained in youth and child development and proficient in sign language. Together they address a variety of issues that have been identified by the youth and their families. Mentorship and guidance is offered in the context of a positive trusting relationship.
