Connect Society's Community Living Support Services (CLSS) is committed to the belief that all individuals have the right to actively participate in community life.
Initially established as a traditional group home serving six individuals in 1980, the program now provides both residential and outreach service to individuals who are deaf and developmentally delayed and living in the community. The service provided is based on individual need and can be as intensive as 24-hour support or a regular weekly home visit.
The CLSS program utilizes a counseling approach with its individuals and their families. Staff possess expertise in the area of deafness and have a professional background in the rehabilitation field. This blend of experience supports the holistic approach of this innovative program. The following information describes our services in more detail.
Staff and volunteers provide individuals with opportunities to develop their language, communication, and social skills by helping them experience life in their own community. as these skills develop, their self-esteem and self-confidence grow. They feel less isolated and more a part of their community. In turn, because of enhanced social and emotional coping skills, they are more likely to be supported by other community services.
