Community Resource Worker I

  • Position supports individual with developmental disabilities in a residential setting
  • Work Setting: Individual’s home and community environment at large
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Active and engaged in home and community, physical competence with wheelchair transfer and mobility
  • Consumer Information: Male, Deaf, intellectual and physical disability

ONLY CANDIDATES WITH AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE WILL BE CONSIDERED 

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education, past experience and training related to disability services will be considered
  • Human Services related degree or Diploma
  • Community Support Worker (CSW) Diploma, CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate
  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Medication Administration Certificate
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

(First Aid and CPR are required to start employment other courses or workshops could be provided after candidate has been hired)

Languages: American Sign Language experience is required (level 1 or higher preferred), Speak/Read/Write English

Security and Safety: Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check

Specific Skills:

 

  • Asses consumer’s relevant skill strengths and developmental needs
  • Engage with consumer to plan and carry out weekly activities, discuss and practice life skills
  • Assist in accessing community events and agencies as required
  • Liaise with other community agencies engaged in consumer’s life
  • Liaise with guardians/parents, family, and support home provider as identified or required
  • Provide personal services supports to persons with special needs, including lifts, transfers and tube feeding
  • Maintain records such as log notes, communication & medical notes
  • Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs

Hours

  • Flexible hours; evenings and weekends
