Community Resource Worker I

Part time hours moving towards full time hours in the summer

Work Setting: Individual’s home and Community environment

Other Information: The position supports individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting.

Client: Male, Deaf, intellectual and physical disability

Specific Skills:

  • assess consumer’s relevant skill strengths and development needs
  • engage with consumer to plan and carry out weekly activities,
  • discuss and practice life skills,
  • assist in accessing community events and agencies as required
  • liaise with other community agencies engaged in the consumers life
  • liaise with guardian/parents, family, and Support home provider as identified or required
  • provide personal services support to persons with special needs, including lifts, transfers and tube feeding
  • maintain records such as log notes, communication & medical notes
  • maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
  • assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs

Security and Safety: Criminal record check, Child welfare check required

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Work under pressure, physically demanding

Work Location Information: Work in employer’s/client’s home and community at large

Essential Skills: ASL experience is required (level 1 or higher preferred), reading text, document use, writing, oral communication, working with others, problem-solving, decision making, critical thinking, finding information

 

Qualifications

Skill Requirements: American Sign Language experience is required (level 1 or higher preferred),

Education: Post-Secondary Education, past experience and training related to disability services will be considered

Credentials:

  • ASL experience is required (level 3 or higher preferred)
  • Human Services related degree or Diploma
  • Community Support Worker (CSW) Diploma
  • (CPR) Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI or MANDT) Certificate
  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Medication Administration Certificate
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (First Aid and CPR are required to start employment other courses or workshops could be provided after the candidate has been hired)

Languages: American Sign Language experience is required (level 3 or higher preferred), Speak English, Read English, Write English

ONLY CANDIDATES WITH AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE WILL BE CONSIDERED

Hours

Hours of employment are daytime hours Monday – Friday and Sunday starting at 33 hours/week and moving to 39 hours/week in summer.
