PART-TIME FAMILY ASL CONSULTANT (TEMPORARY)

Connect Society’s Family Support Program requires a part-time Family ASL Consultant to implement American Sign Language learning programs for families living in Alberta. The primary role will be to build communication within families impacted by deafness by providing individualized and group ASL programming based on parent interest and need. A family-centered approach will be used to build on families’ strengths and be flexible to accommodate family learning styles. A combination of in-person and video technology will be used to be responsive to individual family learning needs and maximize resources. This is a temporary position from September 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023.

Qualifications

 

  • Background or training in American Sign Language instruction
  • Native ASL user
  • Related course work/experience in child development, special needs, Deafness; and working with families
  • Brain Story training
  • Understanding of technology for producing videos and providing remote sessions
  • Clear Criminal Record and Intervention Checks
  • The ability to provide services within a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, and weekends

Hours

20 hours per week; schedule to be determined in collaboration with supervisor, based on client/family need

Compensation

  • $22.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on education and experience;
